Council confirms appointments to DEI board, fire commission and Board of Public Service

The Lansing City Council on Feb. 24 approved several appointments to advisory boards and commissions.
Councilmember Jackson moved the appointment of Cheryl Bernard as the Third Ward member to the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Advisory Board; the council voted to confirm her appointment unanimously. Jackson highlighted Bernard's experience with the WIC division, the Urban League and public-health work and said she had spoken to goals such as public education and outreach for diverse cultures.
The council also appointed John Scott as a ward representative to the Board of Fire Commissioners after noting his recent service on the Board of Public Service and his stated interest in public service; that appointment passed unanimously.
Mayor Schor announced that Peckham had identified a candidate to represent people with disabilities on the Board of Public Service and that Tracy Tanner would be appointed; the mayor's announcement was made as part of the mayoral remarks and the clerk later listed the appointment for the Board of Public Service in the packets placed on file.
Council members praised the appointees and wished them well; motions to confirm the appointments passed without recorded opposition.
