CSO pump station delayed by National Grid work; Bennett Street 72-inch pipe installation underway

Lynn City Water & Sewer Commission staff briefed commissioners on combined-sewer-overflow (CSO) work, saying electrical connections with National Grid are slowing the phase 3 pump-station schedule and that major pipe installations on Bennett Street are progressing.
"We're still working with National Grid to get this thing fired up," Anthony, a staff member, said of the phase 3 pump station, estimating testing would be 2 to 3 months away once power is available. He said National Grid and electrical subcontractors are completing work before the system can be energized and tested.
Staff described progress on phases 4 and 5, the Bennett Street work that includes installing a 72-inch pipe that will connect to the pump station. "They've got about 200 feet of that in of the thousand feet of the 72," Anthony said. He added crews will also install roughly 1,000 feet of 60-inch pipe. The city is also performing additional lining on the western interceptor; crews were described as working overnight to cure a liner in a 300-foot segment. Anthony reported the CSO contract that includes these phases is about 46% complete.
Commissioners asked whether National Grid's delays are unusual; Anthony said crews and the contractor have contacted National Grid and the mayor's office, and that multiple communities are experiencing similar coordination problems with the utility.
No formal votes were taken on CSO contracts or changes at this meeting; the discussion was presented as an operational update and schedule briefing.
