The City Commission unanimously approved Resolution 58-25F on March 3, 2025, amending the fiscal year 2024–25 general fund budget to recognize $6,777.25 in parking meter donations collected on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 20, 2025) and to appropriate those funds for the Martin Luther King Coordinating Committee caregivers program.
City staff member Monty Davis explained the annual practice: parking meter funds collected on MLK Day from on‑street meters in West Palm Beach are donated; the city has made the donation every year since 2007. After the resolution passed, commissioners and staff presented a mock check to representatives of the Martin Luther King Coordinating Committee.
Edith Golden Bush, who identified herself on the record as the founding executive director of the Martin Luther King Coordinating Committee, thanked the mayor and commissioners and described the recipients’ use of the funds to help “the sick and shut in with bills, rent bills, late light bills, water bills, and other services.” The check presentation and brief remarks were recorded on the meeting tape.
The resolution carried unanimously with no opposition recorded on the audio; commissioners did not add conditions to the appropriation on the record.
