Council awards $179,950 contract for 10 year‑round tent structures at Camp Dearborn

The Dearborn City Council on Feb. 25, 2025, approved a contract award to Hampton Build Solutions for $179,950 to purchase 10 hard-sided tent structures for Camp Dearborn.
Why it matters: The tents replace older “green tents” that had been removed after the 2021 season. The new units are designed to remain year-round, reduce annual teardown and setup labor, and provide improved amenities for campers. Each unit is expected to rent for $95 per night and will include a queen bed, bunk beds, small table and chairs and an outdoor kitchen configuration similar to the previous structures.
Parks and Recreation staff presented the procurement to council; council members described the tents as a reinvestment in Camp Dearborn amenities and said demand had been consistent historically. The procurement rationale cited durability, reduced maintenance, and improved guest experience as key drivers for the replacement.
The contract was introduced and recorded as approved with a unanimous roll attached. Parks staff will proceed with the purchase, installation and rental planning under Parks and Recreation oversight.
What’s next: Installation and rental operations are to be scheduled; Parks staff will coordinate an implementation timeline and rental availability notices to the public.
