Council approves $45,517 budget amendment for banquet-hall AV upgrades

The Troy City Council on Feb. 24 approved a bid waiver and a $45,517 budget amendment to upgrade audio-visual equipment in community-center banquet rooms.
Recreation staff requested replacement of outdated projectors and wiring to support routine room rentals. Staff recommended purchases through an REMC cooperative contract (Data Image of Commerce Township) for projectors, wiring and audio for an estimated $21,157, and a bid waiver to TEL Systems of Ann Arbor for controls and video routing systems for Rooms 304 and 305 for about $20,221. The combined budget amendment requested to the Community Center General Equipment Fund totaled $45,517.
Director Brian Gula told council two existing projectors were already nonfunctional and that most renters use AV equipment. Council members described the upgrades as overdue; one council member said event coordinators had repeatedly reported frustration with aging systems.
Council member Chamberlain Kringa moved the resolution; Council member Chanda supported it. The council recorded yes votes from Mayor Baker and voting council members; Council member Ellen Hodrick joined remotely and was ineligible to vote. The motion carried.
Staff said new equipment will include vendor warranties and that installation will be scheduled once contracts are finalized.
