Troy council approves $19,980 budget amendment for senior-center monument sign

The Troy City Council on Feb. 24 approved a bid waiver and a $19,980 budget amendment to construct and install a senior-center monument sign off Livernois.
Recreation Director Brian Gula told the council Veil Geisler Company of Troy was recommended to fabricate and install the senior sign to match the main community-center monument sign for uniformity. The requested amendment will fund the work from the city’s land improvements, entryway signage and landscape account for fiscal year 02/2025.
Council members voiced support for the work as a response to repeated requests from senior programs. Council member Chamberlain Kringa said the sign “honors and centers” seniors and thanked staff for completing a long-running request. Mayor Baker and several council members also expressed appreciation for the finished design.
The motion was moved by the chair and supported by Council member Chamberlain Kringa. The clerk recorded unanimous yes votes from Mayor Baker, Council members Brooks, Chamberlain Kringa, Chanda, Mayor Pro Tem Gunn and Hamilton; Council member Ellen Hodrick joined via Zoom and was excused from voting.
The council noted the sign will be slightly smaller than the main sign and will not be lit. Staff indicated the sign will be placed near the Lebanon entrance to the community center.
The council’s approval authorizes the budget amendment and vendor selection; staff will oversee fabrication and installation.
