The Dearborn City Council on Feb. 25, 2025, approved a series of routine and standalone agenda items by unanimous vote, including the consent agenda, minutes, several donations and appointments, the first reading of an ordinance on noncommercial soliciting and contract and grant authorizations.
Why it matters: The package bundles administrative approvals that keep city operations, community events and public-safety programs moving forward. The council’s actions included funding recognitions, a public-safety grant that establishes a co-responder program, and a facilities contract for Camp Dearborn.
The council approved the consent agenda (Item 6) in a roll-call vote recorded as seven yeas. The minutes of the Feb. 11 meeting were approved (Item 12). The council also conducted the first reading of ordinance No. 25-1838, amending the city code’s noncommercial soliciting provisions (Item 13); that item remains at first reading for further refinement.
Other items approved by unanimous roll call or voice vote included: - Item 14: A temporary waiver of certain outdoor dining and hours-of-operation regulations to support restaurants during the Ramadan season through March 31, 2025. - Item 15: Recognition and appropriation of $11,500 in donations for the Bet on Dearborn Resource Expo event expenditures. - Item 16: Award of a contract to Hampton Build Solutions for $179,950 to purchase 10 hard-sided tent structures for Camp Dearborn. - Item 17: Acceptance of a $4,750 donation from the city’s tow contractor to cover graphics on a police recruiting vehicle. - Item 18: Permit and related approvals for the Marchion Marathon event on April 12, 2025, including a temporary noise-ordinance waiver. - Item 19: Acceptance of the 2025 Michigan State Police community-based crisis response pilot grant (see separate article for details) and recognition/appropriation of related revenue. - Items 20–23: Several appointments to downtown development and business-district authorities, each confirmed by unanimous vote. - Items 24–25: Two condolence resolutions recognizing the deaths of Hajj Ibrahim Beydoun and Michael S. Moyer.
Many of the routine items were introduced by council members, with the clerk reading motions and the council recording unanimous roll calls; individual motions and supporters were noted in the record when supplied (for example, Item 6 was moved by Councilman Enos and supported by Councilwoman Herrick). Several items requested “immediate effect,” meaning the council intended those measures to take effect without delay.
The meeting included other nonvoting matters and public-comment items that the council acknowledged but did not convert into additional formal actions.
