Planning commission hears broad rewrite of zoning use and site standards

The Saginaw Planning Commission on April 15 heard a presentation on a citywide rewrite of two parts of the zoning ordinance: Article 4, which gathers use-specific standards, and Article 5, which governs site improvements such as parking, landscaping and lighting.
The rewrite, presented by Andy Amont of the consulting firm Givens Webster, moves scattered standards into centralized sections, updates cross-references to new district names and adopts several new policy approaches recommended in the city’s Feb. 2022 master plan and common planning guides. “We helped draft this language,” Amont said at the meeting.
Why it matters: the changes would change how common developments — ADUs, multiunit housing, gas stations, drive-throughs, parking lots and industrial storage yards — are regulated and reviewed.
