Board hears February reports from Westmoreland IU and Career & Tech center

During the informational portion of the meeting, board member Mr. Leonard summarized February reports from the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit (WIU) and the Central Westmoreland Career & Technology Center’s joint operating committee.

On the WIU report, Leonard said he attended the regular monthly meeting and the board retreat on Feb. 25 and described a full agenda that included review of minutes, foundation and executive director reports, approval of financial and treasury reports and payment of bills. Leonard reported personnel actions taken by the IU board, including approval of two teacher resignations, one transition coach retirement, hiring of a full-time principal for the Claire View School, and hiring of one full-time special education teacher. He said the IU board discussed policies and administrative regulations and adjourned late that evening.

Leonard also summarized the Feb. 6 meeting of the Central Westmoreland Career & Technology Center joint operating committee. He reported the committee’s meeting included an executive session covering personnel, legal and student matters; approval of minutes and bills; authorization to solicit bids for supplies and equipment for the 2025–26 school year; acknowledgments of policies for first and second readings; approval of two travel requests; and routine personnel items including a substitute hire, one FMLA leave and one resignation. Leonard noted eight of nine committee members attended and that culinary students prepared a meal for the meeting — “The meal included delicious homemade stromoles of of various types of variety of sauces and some pasta, a fresh vegetable salad, and, various delicious desserts,” he said.

Both items were presented as informational reports; Leonard’s summaries described actions taken by those separate entities rather than actions by the Penn-Trafford board.
