The San Juan County Council on Feb. 11 approved a resolution authorizing disposal of surplus county personal property by public auction and canceled a public hearing that had been scheduled for that day on a Lopez Island Metropolitan Park District ballot proposition.
John Roach, fleet director, presented the surplus‑property item to the council, saying the equipment on the list is “beyond its life cycle, and it's time for it to be replaced with new equipment.” The council opened public testimony, heard none on the surplus inventory, and then approved a resolution to dispose of the listed equipment by public auction.
Separately, the council canceled a public hearing that had been set for Feb. 11 to consider adoption of a resolution to submit a ballot proposition for an April 22, 2025, special election on the formation of a Metropolitan Park District on Lopez Island and the election of initial commissioners. Council staff advised the council the resolution to place the proposition on the ballot had been adopted on Feb. 10, 2025, and the hearing therefore was no longer required; the council voted to cancel the Feb. 11 hearing.
Both items were approved by voice vote; the transcript records the motions and that council members voted “aye,” with no roll‑call recorded in the public minutes.
