EPRC continues Ferry Landing parking discussion as sheriff seeks clearer enforcement tools

Members of the San Juan County EPRC on Feb. 6, 2025, continued a recurring discussion about time restrictions and enforcement at the Ferry Landing upper parking area and asked staff to keep the item on future agendas while seeking more public input.
EPRC members said the sheriff—s department has previously raised enforcement concerns because there are no posted rules at the site and local law enforcement lacks regulatory "teeth" to address abandoned vehicles or parking misuse. The committee discussed whether public works should be asked to post time-limit signs to give law enforcement clearer enforcement authority.
Committee members agreed to seek more public input and to invite Colin Huntermer from Public Works to the next meeting to discuss options. Staff said public outreach and signage would likely be the first steps rather than immediate regulation changes.
No formal vote or binding action was taken. The item will remain on the committee—s agenda so staff can gather public comment and provide recommendations to public works and the sheriff—s office.
