County staff to release opioid abatement RFP; panel, Q&A and timeline set

County staff outlined a timetable and committee plan for releasing an opioid-abatement Request for Proposals (RFP) and agreed preliminary dates and committee composition during a work-session style discussion.
"I will do the RFP with these dates. I will talk with Laney first, make sure that those are good and solid for you guys and your, agendas. And then I will work on getting the RFP out by Friday of this week," said Mike Beaver, who led the item. Staff and commissioners agreed to a timeline that included a Feb. 7 release, a Q&A session in March tied to board formation, a proposal deadline April 11 and a review/selection meeting the week of April 14.
Beaver said he has reached potential panelists and that community representatives — including local behavioral health, law enforcement, public health and treatment providers — would be invited. He recommended an odd-numbered committee (about seven members) to avoid ties and suggested including both county and community representatives; commissioners said one or more commissioners may participate in the selection process but that the detailed evaluation should be the committee's charge before final commissioner approval.
Commissioners and staff also agreed to use Zoom for the Q&A so remote participants can attend, and they asked staff to coordinate dates with county calendar managers. Staff will return with the proposed committee roster for formal confirmation and will publicize the RFP once the schedule is finalized.
