Commissioners authorize chair to sign Department of Agriculture funding application for fairgrounds

The Board of Commissioners authorized the chairman to sign the county's application for state Department of Agriculture funding for the fairgrounds, with a filing deadline of Feb. 15, 2025.
"I move to authorize the chairman to sign the application for state funding county area affairs, with the deadline 02/15/2025," a commissioner said; another commissioner seconded and the motion carried on a voice vote.
Staff provided an operations update on fairgrounds maintenance and improvements. Nick (fairgrounds staff) reported progress on kitchen repairs, including epoxy flooring and plans to address several rotten lower cabinets. He told the board the annex kitchen looks good and that he planned to tackle countertop and cabinet repairs in late December or during slow event weeks to avoid disrupting scheduled weekend events.
Staff also reported work on asset lists for fairgrounds equipment; some vehicles and tractors are not currently recorded in a central asset list and will be reconciled with maintenance and auditor records. Staff noted upcoming events, meetings related to fair rules (no outside pets due to vet-inspection rules), and that lighting and outside projects will proceed when weather allows.
Commissioners signed the Department of Agriculture application; staff will obtain the auditor's signature and submit the packet before the deadline.
