Clallam County commissioners on Feb. 18 said they will act to appoint Scott Clawson to the Board of Equalization for District 1 to return the board to a three-member panel.
Staff said Clawson, a former member of the county planning commission, applied after the vacancy and has discussed the role with county staff. "Scott Clawson ... decided that he would be interested in making application, and has done so. And I have spoken with Scott on the phone about the position, and he's excited to do it," a staff member said. Commissioners agreed to act on the appointment so Clawson can appear at the Board of Equalization session scheduled for Feb. 19.
Staff acknowledged the midstream appointment will change how pending hearings are processed: matters currently handled by hearing examiners will transition back to the Board of Equalization when Clawson takes the seat. Staff said in-process items will not be reset; the board will continue with its review and approvals from Feb. 19 forward.
Commissioners indicated support to move the appointment forward at the work session; the transcript does not record a formal roll-call vote or the effective appointment language signed in the record.
