Clallam County commissioners heard Feb. 18 details of a sublease with the City of Port Angeles that will allocate roughly half the evidence warehouse space and costs to the city.
County staff said the building functions as the county's evidence warehouse and that Port Angeles has been using about half the space. "They do utilize about half the space, and they will now be paying about half the cost," a staff member said. The sublease is a renewal of an existing arrangement and staff said county control over the space requires the city to coordinate with the county before placing items such as vehicles inside.
Commissioners indicated they would sign the renewal next week. Staff did not describe changes to evidence handling policies, chain-of-custody, or security protocols in the transcript; those operational details were not specified.
The sublease applies to a facility used jointly by county law-enforcement functions and the City of Port Angeles; the county will continue primary control, staff said.
