Kittitas County staff told the Planning Commission the county’s comprehensive‑plan periodic update will include subarea planning and community outreach, starting with an open house tentatively scheduled for March.
Staff said the outreach will be coordinated with the county’s consultant (named in meeting materials as Kimberly Horn) and will include public‑facing events such as farmers‑market attendance and targeted subarea work. Jeremy Johnson described the Eastern Subarea plan as part of the comprehensive‑plan update and said staff are preparing housing and population projections to inform outreach. The county intends to use the open house as a template for further area plans and flagged the Lamberts (note: transcript reference) and Easton areas as likely early candidates for subarea work.
Commissioners asked how the subarea planning will be supported in the comprehensive plan’s language and staff responded that the subarea work is being integrated into the periodic update and that a template and outreach schedule will be produced. Staff said they have an upcoming slate of community meetings and that more detailed materials will be available as the consultant work proceeds.
