KITSAP COUNTY — At its Feb. 24 meeting the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners approved several board appointments and adopted two proclamations recognizing Women's History Month and National Parent Leadership Month.
Appointments and reappointments - Commission on Children and Youth Advisory Board: The board approved the appointment of Megan Kaskuna to a three‑year term ending Feb. 23, 2028, and reappointed Dragan Karsdick to a three‑year term ending Oct. 10, 2027. Laura Hyde, who staffs the commission, told commissioners that Kaskuna formerly worked as a youth services librarian, holds a master's degree in information studies and has lived experience with housing scarcity; she is a military spouse and parent of a child with special needs. Hyde confirmed the spelling of Dragan Karsdick's name and said he serves as operations director for the Puget Sound region of USA Volleyball and has decades of involvement in youth sports and coaching education.
- Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board: The board reappointed Catherine Lehi to a three‑year term ending Jan. 9, 2028. Commissioners noted Lehi resides in Port Orchard, works in Kitsap County Superior Court and has long advocated for accessibility and services for young people with disabilities.
- Sheriff's Office Civil Service Commission: The board reappointed Robert Forbes and John Poppy to new six‑year terms ending March 24, 2031. Commissioners described Forbes as a former chief of police for the city of Bremerton and a graduate of the FBI National Academy; Poppy was described as a former civil engineer with prior service on local utility and environmental boards.
Proclamations - Women's History Month: Kimberly Williams (presenter) read a proclamation designating March 2025 as Women's History Month in Kitsap County. The proclamation cited the 2025 national theme "Moving Forward Together: Women Educating and Inspiring Generations" and encouraged residents to recognize women's contributions. Commissioners adopted the resolution by voice vote.
