The committee adopted the dash-1 amendment to House Bill 3141 and forwarded the bill to the House floor with a due-pass recommendation. The original bill designated October 12 as Oregon Farmer and Rancher Day; the dash-1 amendment replaces October 12 with a March date to align the day with National Ag Day.
Representative Vicki Breeze Iverson, sponsor of the amendment, told the committee that aligning the state recognition with National Ag Day (this year March 18) would help amplify recognition of the agricultural sector statewide. "Oregon was built on ag," Iverson said, and the amendment is intended to help the state recognize and promote that industry across Oregon.
Vice Chair Fingerh McDonald moved adoption of the dash-1 amendment and later moved the amended bill to the floor with a due-pass recommendation. The committee recorded no objections during the voice votes and the motions passed. Representative Hartman signaled enthusiastic support for the amendment.
Representative Breeze Iverson was selected to carry the bill on the House floor. The committee closed the work session and the bill proceeds to the House floor and any subsequent floor action.
