McFarland council adopts updated multi-jurisdiction hazard mitigation plan

The McFarland City Council approved Resolution 2025-13 adopting an updated multi-jurisdiction hazard mitigation plan that identifies local hazards and helps the city qualify for mitigation funding.
Mr. Saldana told the council the plan was compiled over about a year and a half in coordination with Kern County and other jurisdictions. He said the plan lists identified hazards—such as flood risk—and that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Cal OES and Kern County Office of Emergency Services reviewed and signed off on the plan.
"This is a requirement from Cal OES and from FEMA as a prerequisite to receive any type of funding to mitigate any of the hazards that we identify," Saldana said. He added the plan went through a public participation process and staff recommended adoption.
Motion: Councilmember Connell moved approval; Councilmember Perez seconded. Roll call votes were recorded as ayes and the motion passed.
Adoption allows the city to pursue grants and mitigation funding tied to an approved hazard mitigation plan, city staff said. The plan will be used to support ongoing grant applications the city has been pursuing.
The council voted unanimously to adopt the plan.
