Board of Education seeks technical correction to broadband appropriation language

Matthew Ryber, appearing for the State Board of Education, described Senate Bill 1091 as a one-word technical correction to change "department" to "board" in statute, reflecting a prior budget transfer. Ryber said the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee last year moved about $5 million (a net-zero transfer) from the State Department of Education to the State Board of Education to fund broadband infrastructure at rural schools, and the bill corrects the statutory language to match that transfer. "This is something we simply just forgot," Ryber said, calling it a routine, technical fix.
There was no public testimony recorded against the bill and no substantive policy debate; committee members moved the bill to the Senate floor with a due pass recommendation by voice vote.
