The Calcasieu Parish Planning and Zoning Board on Feb. 18 voted to defer action on two proposed amendments to Chapter 26 (Zoning and Development): Division 6, the Highway 385 overlay district, and Division 7, the Highway 12506 and Highway 27 South overlay district. Planning staff asked for the deferrals after meeting with stakeholder groups and receiving suggested revisions to the proposed ordinance language.
Mister Crane, planning staff, told the board the stakeholders had provided useful comments and staff requested more time to incorporate those suggestions and return with a revised document. Miss Cobb moved to defer the Highway 385 overlay item; Miss Hyatt seconded. The board approved the deferral by voice vote. The board took a separate motion and vote to defer the Highway 12506/27 South overlay item as well.
The board also announced advisory outcomes from the police jury's Jan. 30 meeting on prior planning recommendations: the Sims Family Wealth Trust application, which planning and zoning had recommended for approval on Jan. 28, was approved by the police jury; the Norman Simmons Jr. application, which planning and zoning had recommended for approval, was denied by the police jury. The board closed by noting its next regularly scheduled meeting in March 2025.
Staff said they will prepare revised drafts for reintroduction to the board once stakeholder suggestions are incorporated.
