"We were able in this calendar to balance the semesters at 83 and 85," Dr. Strawser said, citing attempts to balance student contact days while adjusting holiday and activity windows. He also noted the change was intended to ease scheduling conflicts for extracurricular activities that fall near Memorial Day.
Board members who supported the deferral said they wanted more time for parents, staff and community stakeholders to review the proposed shifts and provide feedback. Board member Jamie Clapham said she expected some feedback would arrive in the two-week window but emphasized that calendar decisions rarely satisfy every constituency. Christine Stephenson, who voted to defer, asked administrators to use the short window for outreach rather than a heavy new survey effort, noting the district has multiple surveys already in progress.
