County approves personnel actions: per diem, new hires, vacation cap extensions; veteran service officer to resign in August

Lawrence County commissioners approved a series of routine personnel actions during the meeting.
The board ratified a per‑diem payment for the county medical doctor of $152 per pay period for 2025 that had been approved earlier and was being formally reaffirmed. Commissioners approved three staffing items: a step raise for Robert Witherspoon to Dispatcher II (grade 3) with base pay cited; a hire of Laura Kidd as Dispatcher I (grade 1) with starting pay recorded; and a hire of Melvin Gardner as Correction Officer I (grade 3) with base pay recorded. The personnel packets listed each employee’s effective date and town of residence.
Commissioners also approved temporary extensions to vacation caps for several employees — specific names and cap hours were recorded in a written request — with the caps to expire on April 1 per staff letter. The board accepted a letter of resignation from Veteran Service Officer Jesse Ketser, effective August 20; commissioners said the vacancy will be advertised.
Separately, the board approved a travel request for the supervisory medical doctor, Jeff Schroeder, to attend an education institute in Loveland, Colorado, with staff direction to process travel and training paperwork.
All personnel items were moved, seconded and recorded as approved in the meeting minutes.
