Lawrence County commissioners voted to authorize the chairman to sign an agreement with South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks to regravel and apply chloride to Roughlock Falls Road for approximately one mile.
Highway staff told the board GF&P offered to pay $85,000 to cover gravel and chloride for the segment from Highway 14A/80 up into the park. County staff said the road remains on the county’s secondary system and GF&P has in past years paid the county to chloride the road because of heavy park traffic.
Commissioners said the offer would allow the county to improve drainage and surface conditions at minimal net cost; the county will provide labor and equipment and invoice GF&P under the signed agreement. One commissioner noted the estimate dates from earlier cost work, but staff said the figure should be sufficient for the work planned this year.
The board approved authorization for the chairman to sign the agreement and move forward with the work.
