Capital Improvement Board thanks Monroe County for stewardship of convention center

A representative of the Capital Improvement Board used the Feb. 27 public-comment period to thank Monroe County commissioners for their role in stewarding the county's convention center and to pledge that the new facility will honor the county’s contribution.
Mark Weichart, appearing with fellow board members Doug Bruce and Joyce Poling, told commissioners the board “recognize[s] that and we appreciate it” and said the board will honor the county’s legacy with plaques and literature in the existing and new buildings. He said the board adopted the external name "Bloomington Convention Center" for marketing but intends to preserve and publicize Monroe County's historical role for local audiences.
Commissioners thanked the Capital Improvement Board for its stewardship and noted the city council was scheduled to vote on bonding for the new center on March 5. The board representative said the Capital Improvement Board has held more than 31 public meetings on the project and emphasized plans to make sure community members and visitors understand Monroe County’s contribution.
