Monroe County Commissioners on Feb. 27 approved the public official bonds for the county coroner and recorder and authorized signatures on the documents.
A county staff member identified as Angie requested the commissioners’ written approval under Indiana Code 5-4-1-8 for bonds the statute requires for public officials. Angie said the code requires the approving person to write the approval on the bond; the staff member asked that the commissioners sign the coroner’s and recorder’s bonds.
The recorded motion, moved by a commissioner, approved the bonds for coroner Jeffrey Hall and recorder Amy Swain with signatures to be provided the same day. The commissioners voted 3-0 to approve the bonds. The staff member advised that the recorder’s bond is recorded by the clerk and noted other offices that are statutorily required to have bonds.
No public comment was offered on the item. The staff member said the county had in the past attached a separate approval document to bonds but that the statute requires the approval be written directly on the bond itself.
