Wayne County adds single sign‑on to govDelivery platform to streamline notifications

The Wayne County Commission approved Amendment 1 to a five‑year contract with Granicus LLC to add single sign‑on (SSO) integration for the county’s GovDelivery email automation platform.
Greg Abbas, division director for enterprise applications, said the SSO integration will let administrators use the county’s Active Directory accounts instead of separate platform usernames and passwords. Hector Roman, director of information technology, said SSO will simplify account management, reduce password resets and align GovDelivery access with other county systems.
Commissioners asked how GovDelivery works for the public and for commissioners’ offices. Abbas and Roman said GovDelivery has been live across the county for about a year and allows both departments and members of the public to subscribe to topic‑specific alerts (for example, road closures). Staff emphasized subscriptions are voluntary: the public must opt in through the county website and the platform provides unsubscribe options. Commissioners asked whether the county can export a list of all county residents’ emails for a commissioner’s personal use; staff said that is not possible and that contact lists are limited to voluntary subscriptions or preexisting lists the county already lawfully holds.
Commissioner Killeen asked for a public disclaimer clarifying that sign‑ups will be used only for the stated alert purpose; staff agreed a disclaimer can be added. The commission approved the contract amendment by tablet vote.
