Lexington County committee approves zoning map amendment for Bush River Road storage facility with conditions

A Lexington County committee voted to approve a zoning map amendment to allow a self‑storage facility on a parcel off Bush River Road.

Council discussion and staff presentations said the developer has agreed to limit hours of operation to 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., install a gated entry for residents, provide additional landscape buffers and add a fence topper for security. County staff and a council member said a “coming soon” sign with a contact phone number will be placed at the property and that the developer will meet with neighbors before the public hearing.

The county’s zoning administrator, Walt McPherson, and zoning assistant Taylor Drake participated in the discussion. Councilwoman Kerrigan told the committee she and staff had met the project team and reported the design team agreed to the operating hours and the gated access. Kerrigan said concerns from nearby residents included lighting, intrusion and vagrancy; she said the sign and a neighborhood meeting are intended to provide notice and a chance for public comment. Robbie (staff member) confirmed the sign had been ordered and would be placed the following week.

A motion to approve the ordinance passed; the committee chair and a second were recorded and the request was approved. Committee members said the approval moves the item to first reading and that notice and a public hearing will follow, allowing the public to register comments before any final zoning decision.
