Wayne County environmental services staff described a six‑month comparable source agreement request with Z Contractors to complete catch‑up items discovered during recent upgrades at Lift Station LS1A, part of the Rouge Valley Sewage Disposal System.
Patrick Cullen, environmental services division director, told the committee that last year’s infrastructure work at Lift Station 1A—located on Hines Drive north of Ford in Dearborn Heights—revealed additional items outside the original contract scope. “We have this contract to do three different things,” Cullen said: install stabilization plates on newly installed gate frames, furnish and install chain‑link fencing and gate closures for security, and install a replacement supply fan for the LS1A wet well.
Cullen said the lift station is a sanitary sewer equalization chamber and pumping station that collects sewage from roughly 11 customer communities and pumps into the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) system. Staff said some of the new fencing is needed because the area is publicly accessible and people sometimes fish nearby; the county wants to restrict access to critical infrastructure.
Next steps: The committee heard the scope and rationale; no formal vote was recorded in the committee discussion. Staff said they will move forward with the comparable source agreement if the committee ultimately approves procurement in the usual process.
