Delta County commissioners approve $1.58 million in bills, sign landfill letter of credit; multiple items deferred

Delta County commissioners on Feb. 18 approved payment of $1,576,048.07 in county claims and $697.88 in commissioner expenses, authorized a $1,100,000 letter of credit to satisfy financial-assurance requirements for the Northside Landfill, and approved a range of routine personnel and planning items.
The claims motion carried on a roll call and was recorded as adopted. The board later approved signing the $1.1 million open letter of credit requested by the landfill authority to meet the landfill’s financial assurance obligations. County staff explained the letter of credit is a standby financing arrangement; the line is intended only for use if the landfill authority must access funds to continue operations in an emergency.
The board also took these recorded actions: it approved Zoning Case No. 125-PC (rezoning and conditional use to split and sell a parcel), authorized going out for a qualifications process (RFQ) for master plan development, accepted the Planning Commission’s notice of intent to begin the master-plan update, and approved hiring to fill a circuit-court enforcement clerk position requested by the prosecutor’s office.
Several items were deferred or received no action: the airport loan renewal (MSU SAF/aircraft restoration) was tabled to allow the airport advisory board time to act; a proposed utility easement for Fuller Park was left for later when engineering updates arrive; and an airport-related action to inspect/verify aircraft collateral was deferred. The board also voted to amend its FOIA procedures language (see separate article) and received informational reports on workers-compensation committee membership and other matters.
