Board approves MDOT permission for cameras; sheriff’s fleet request moved to business meeting

The Cass County Board of Commissioners approved a Michigan Department of Transportation resolution that allows placement of fixed camera systems in state highway right-of-way, and separately voted to move a sheriff’s vehicle purchase to the regular business meeting for final action.
Clint (County staff) told commissioners the MDOT resolution is a standard agreement required to place FLOC camera systems along a state highway within county right-of-way. A motion to adopt the resolution was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Sheriff’s Office leadership asked to advance a separate request for acquisition of three patrol vehicles and three administrative vehicles (for the sheriff, undersheriff and road captain). The sheriff explained that the administrative SUVs would be non‑pursuit–rated Explorers with a low set of lighting so they can be used on-scene (for example at highway fatalities) without taking patrol cars off the road.
The board voted to move that purchase forward to the regular business meeting so final procurement decisions and state-purchase procedures can be completed.
The county’s public safety officials said the MDOT resolution will allow vendor installation once MDOT issues final permissions; the vehicle proposal will return for a separate approval with procurement details.
