At its Feb. 27 meeting the Albany Utility Board approved several routine contracts and appointments.
Contracts and renewals - Metaswitch (Reston, VA): The board authorized an annual renewal and extended-warranty contract for the Class 5 telephone switch used by internal departments. Total expenditure authorized: $80,544. The contract is charged to the telecom budget and allocated across internal departments as subscriber cross-charges. Roll call: Burley, Collier, Fields, Woodall and the chair voted yes. - Verizon Connect telematics: Fleet requested renewal of telematics services under the state contract for $104,850. Presenters said the system provides GPS tracking, diagnostic codes and exception reporting used by department directors to monitor assets and driver behavior. The board approved the purchase; roll call was unanimous yes.
Appointments and committee delegates - Budget/Finance Committee representatives: The board appointed Mister Woodall and Mister Burley as utility board representatives to the city’s budget finance committee (motion approved by roll call). - Electric Cities of Georgia (ECG): Mister Burley was appointed voting delegate and Keisha Collier was named alternate voting delegate. - Municipal Electric Association of Georgia (MEAG): Keisha Collier was appointed voting delegate and Vivette Fields was named alternate. - Municipal Gas Association of Georgia (MGAG): Mister Woodall was appointed voting delegate and Mister Maples was appointed alternate voting delegate.
Other routine business - Approval of minutes: The board approved minutes as circulated by voice/roll call vote.
Where relevant, presenters said the telecom contract is recouped internally by charging departments for phone service; the telematics contract is budgeted in the utility fund and is used to collect asset location, speed and diagnostic data to support director-level accountability and safety programs. The board took no additional substantive policy action on these items beyond the contract approvals and appointments.
