The Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) presented an informational recognition to the Albany Utility Board on Feb. 27, honoring the Albany Utilities laboratory for sustained compliance and state recognition.
Pamela Burnett of GAWP told the board the association runs certification and recognition programs for operators, wastewater and lab professionals across the state. “The lab is really the heart of the safety practices, the QAQC,” Burnett said, describing the laboratory’s role in detecting contaminants, flagging alerts and maintaining regulatory compliance.
Staff and board members praised lab personnel, singling out Adam Winters (identified by staff as the day‑to‑day lab operator) for hands‑on work and for serving as an inspector of other labs in the state. A GAWP representative said Albany received a platinum award, representing five consecutive years of perfect compliance and the follow‑up platinum designation on the sixth year. City and board members thanked GAWP for the program and recognized the utility staff for work that supports public health for Albany’s roughly 70,000 residents.
This was an informational item; no board action was required.
