The Albany Utility Board authorized staff to enter into an $80,544 contract renewal with Metaswitch for extended warranty and annual software support for the city’s Class 5 telephone switch.
The contract covers hardware warranty and annual software support for the switch that provides internal telephone services to city and county departments and public-safety operations; staff said the system went live in 2019 and has been stable since.
Presenter Schwitters described the contract split: $19,006 for the extended hardware warranty and $61,538 for annual Class 5 software support. Another presenter noted roughly 1,600 internal subscribers use the system; departments are cross-charged for phone service and those internal charges are used to pay the telecom budget costs.
Staff told the board the vendor changed ownership after Microsoft acquired Metaswitch in December and later sold it to a company called Alyonta; the vendor name may appear differently on future renewals. The board voted to authorize staff to enter the contract; the roll-call vote recorded unanimous approval (Mister Burley — yes; Miss Collier — yes; Miss Fields — yes; Mister Woodall — yes; Chair votes yes).
