Georgia water professionals honor Albany Utilities lab with five-year perfect compliance, platinum award

The Georgia Association of Water Professionals presented Albany Utilities’ laboratory staff with a platinum award on Feb. 27, recognizing five consecutive years of perfect compliance with state regulations.
The recognition matters because the lab performs regulatory testing that underpins drinking-water safety for the city’s more than 70,000 residents; platinum status denotes sustained, 100% compliance across inspections and paperwork requirements, the association said.
Pamela Burnett of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals told the board the group ‘‘started the certification program for operators’’ and that laboratory committees are among GAWP’s most active. She said the award requires ‘‘100% in compliance’’ and called the achievement difficult to attain. Burnett added, ‘‘I am tickled pink to be here in Albany.’’
Board members and city staff praised the lab team and singled out Adam Winters, who ‘‘runs the day-to-day operation of the lab,’’ for his attention to detail and for participating in inspections across the state. The chair asked the board and public to ‘‘express our appreciation’’ and noted that the lab’s work is essential for ensuring safe tap water and adequate fire-protection pressure.
City and board speakers emphasized the award reflects not only laboratory staff but also municipal support that enables operations and regulatory training. The board did not take a formal vote on the recognition; the presentation was listed as an informational item on the agenda.
The board said it would relay appreciation and continue supporting laboratory staffing and training so Albany can remain in compliance with state requirements.
