Commission approves Jan. 14 minutes; Alex Johnson’s nomination advances in Oregon Senate Rules Committee

Chair Mills opened the meeting and asked for a motion to approve the Jan. 14 minutes; a motion was made and seconded and Chair Mills announced, “Commissioner Mills, I believe the 01/14/2025 meeting minutes are approved as posted or written.” The record shows no objections.
Executive Director Christina Wolinkowski reported that Alex Johnson, the governor’s nominee to fill a vacancy created by Commissioner Morgan’s expiring term, was presented to the Oregon Senate Rules Committee and that the committee approved his nomination by a 4–1 vote. Wolinkowski said Senator Bonham voted no on principle because he wanted more than one candidate per commission on a slate; Wolinkowski said the committee’s dissent was to the process rather than to Johnson personally. The nomination proceeds to the full Senate for confirmation.
Other housekeeping items: staff reopened a best-practices survey at the director’s request and requested commissioners return executive director performance-review materials to the chair by the end of the month for the executive committee to carry out the evaluation.
Why this matters: approvals of minutes are routine administrative business. The Senate Rules Committee vote advances the governor’s nominee toward confirmation and fills a forthcoming vacancy on the commission.
