VALDOSTA, Ga. — The Valdosta Mayor and Council approved payment of $54,580.86 to James Warren Associates for emergency work at the Mud Creek Wastewater Facility after staff discovered two of three influent pumps were not operating.
Jason (staff member) reported that on Jan. 29 staff found only one of three influent pumps working. He said attempts to clear clogs and reverse flow failed, and the city contracted James Warren Associates to install a bypass. The work replaced an undersized 6-inch bypass valve with a 12-inch valve and set up bypass pumping capacity so a single pump could run without creating a spill risk.
Jason told the council the bypass was installed the same night and the system ran on a single pump until both other pumps were returned to service the following week. He recommended payment of $54,580.86 to James Warren Associates to cover the emergency repair and replacement work.
Action: A motion to approve the payment was made, seconded and approved by a show of hands.
Operational context: Jason said the 6-inch valve on site dated to 02/2010 and was undersized for current flows; replacing it with a 12-inch valve and installing bypass pumping reduced the risk of a spill if another pump failed. Staff reported all three pumps are now functioning.
