Commissioners approve tuition reimbursement for county LPN enrolled in RN coursework

Merrimack County commissioners voted to reimburse one full-time licensed practical nurse (LPN) for coursework the employee is taking toward an RN degree under the county's existing educational reimbursement policy.

County staff described the county's tuition reimbursement rules and said the policy typically allows employees to receive reimbursement for two classes per year. The presenter said the LPN is beginning prerequisites and is at least two years from graduation; if the employee later enrolls in the county's formal tuition-assistance program, the staff said that program includes a three-year employment commitment.

"She's a great employee, so I'm I'm happy she's sort of started this journey," a staff member said during the discussion, praising the employee and recommending approval.

Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the reimbursement request by voice vote. The motion carried; the public record shows approval but does not list a roll-call tally in the transcript. Staff said the course credits are transferable among regional community college partners if the employee chooses to take prerequisites at a nearby campus.
