Council renews Axon lease for body cameras, awards Gates Mills resurfacing bid

Pepper Pike City Council voted on Feb. 25 to renew a leasing agreement with Axon for body cameras, tasers and associated cloud storage and to award the Gates Mills Boulevard resurfacing contract to Joga Highway.

Police and finance staff described the Axon arrangement as a leasing-service program that covers devices, charging hardware and cloud evidence management. "It's a 3 year program. This is this year's cost of it," said a police representative, who listed the city’s annual Axon charge as $28,348.29. The council moved and seconded renewal of the Axon contract and approved the expenditure by roll call. The roll call recorded affirmative votes from the council members present.

Council then considered bids for resurfacing on Gates Mills Boulevard. Don (public works staff) reported eight plan sets sold and eight bidders; the low bid from Joga Highway was $944,855. Don recommended awarding the contract and noted the city expects a county contribution of approximately $800,000 toward the project. Council approved the low bid by roll call after brief discussion of timing, lane closures and a 60-day typical construction window.
