Tipp City Council on Feb. 18 adopted a resolution declaring four city-owned vehicles surplus property and authorized their disposal under the city—s capital-improvement plan.
City staff said the vehicles are being replaced per the capital improvement plan. "This resolution declares 4 vehicles surplus property," a staff presenter said. Police Chief Atkins said one of the 2020 vehicles is being retired this year because it has been among the most expensive to maintain; staff said they retained an older vehicle as a backup and expect to return to a seven-year replacement cycle.
Why it matters: Removing aging, high-maintenance vehicles can reduce repair costs for the fleet and is part of the city—s capital replacement schedule.
Council opened a public hearing on the resolution; no members of the public spoke. The council then approved the resolution by unanimous roll-call vote.
The resolution lists four vehicles for disposal; staff noted that one unit (a 2020 model year vehicle) is being removed one year earlier than planned because of escalating maintenance costs. No sale details, expected proceeds or disposal method were discussed at the meeting.
