Palm Springs Fire Chief Paul Alvarado and consultant Stuart Gary presented a fire department master plan to the City Council on Feb. 27 that recommends preserving the Station 1 site, adding staffing to engines not yet at four-person crews, remodeling Station 3, and studying a sixth station in the city’s north/northeast as growth warrants.
The plan, commissioned by Chief Alvarado and prepared by City Gate Associates, frames fire and emergency medical service levels as local policy choices. Consultant Stuart Gary said the first unit should aim for a total response time — from the 9-1-1 call to wheel stop — of 8½ minutes for the first arriving unit and about 11–12 minutes for a full first-alarm force.
