Committee advances bill directing historic preservation office to run public education campaign

Senator Hankins, the Senate sponsor, said the bill would require the office to provide seminars and training to agencies, organizations and individuals on preservation and protection of state historic properties and to assist with applications for listing historic properties. He described the measure as a way to improve public understanding and encourage better preservation practices.
No members of the public offered testimony in committee. A committee member moved to recommend the substitute favorably and the motion passed unanimously by voice vote. The substitute will move to the full Senate for consideration with the committee’s recommendation.
