Court adopts Coastal Bend hazard mitigation plan update, judge named authorized representative

Jim Wells County adopted an updated five-year hazard mitigation plan and designated the county judge as the authorized representative to submit the plan to FEMA and Texas emergency-management authorities.
The Jim Wells County Commissioner's Court on Feb. 28 adopted the Coastal Bend Council of Governments hazard mitigation plan update, a five-year document the county must maintain to remain eligible for certain FEMA and state disaster assistance.
Jim Wells County Emergency Management Coordinator Lance Brown said the update took more than a year and had lapsed under a prior administration. Brown said the plan was prepared with H2O partners, covers county needs through 2030, and must be submitted to FEMA and the Texas Department of Emergency Management to ensure eligibility for disaster declarations and mitigation funding.
The court adopted the plan in its entirety and appointed County Judge Pedro Pete Trevino Jr. as the county’s authorized representative for matters related to the plan. Brown characterized the adoption as the last piece of the county’s submission requirements to maintain access to mitigation and declaration processes.
Ending: The court approved the plan by voice vote and directed staff to file the adopted document with FEMA and state emergency-management authorities.
