Eric also reported that the Apple Valley American Legion has contributed $5,000 to the program and has indicated a willingness to donate up to $20,000 annually depending on the success of its gambling operation. "Without [the Legion contribution], we're probably not offering this opportunity to residents of Apple Valley," Eric said.
Councilmember Lisa and other council members praised staff for developing the program and noted the intent to reduce financial barriers to parks programs. The meeting also included a staff update about the city’s annual tree and shrub sale, which staff said offers a variety of deciduous, evergreen and fruit trees and tends to sell out.
