Dr. Reinke, a district presenter, told the Whitnall School District Board of Education the district’s 2021–24 strategic plan has “sunsetted” and staff are beginning development of a new plan with community input and an administrative planning day.
The update centered on keeping short-term goals from the expired plan while launching a new planning cycle. "We have a community event coming up in a few weeks, and then we have an administrative day coming up on the eighteenth," Dr. Reinke said, adding that the board would receive a work‑session update after the community event.
Why it matters: the district is balancing ongoing academic and engagement work with a formal planning process that will shape spending and priorities. Staff described continuing use of literacy and math implementation plans and aligning teacher professional-practice goals with student learning outcomes so work is sustained during the transition to a new strategic plan.
Presenters highlighted measurable targets in academics, student engagement and employee satisfaction. Adam (staff member) said the district focused on raising proficiency as measured by the Forward Exam and ACT and noted early indicators of predictive growth on MAP testing: "we've seen some really nice predictive growth in our fall to winter on MAP," he said. Staff also described implementation of tier 1 instructional strategies and an "analyzing student work" protocol for planning tier 2 supports.
On student engagement, board materials show the district already exceeded a year-to-date growth target: officials said they are working to sustain or increase that level when spring surveys are administered. Dr. Reinke noted the district plans a smaller employee communication survey at the end of the year to measure progress on internal communications and engagement after changes this year.
Board members asked about participation in the planning process and timelines. Dr. Reinke and Adam said administrators, directors and community members will have roles in upcoming events; one board member referenced roughly 500 community respondents and about 400 student survey responses that staff are analyzing.
Staff listed next steps: continued semester-aligned activities tied to annual goals, Forward Exam administration beginning March 17 (with science/social studies before spring break and reading/math afterward), spring surveys for students and employees, and continued work on the new strategic plan.
The board had no formal action on the report; staff said they will return with additional data and a work-session update following the community planning event.
