The Franklin Municipal Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of Ordinance 2024-50, rezoning about 1.95 acres at 104 Chestnut Lane from R-4 and MR to Civic Institutional (CI) to recognize the long-established use of the Christ Fellowship Church campus.
Staff told commissioners the site comprises three lots totaling just under 2 acres, with the larger lot within the historic residential design concept and the smaller lots within the mixed residential concept of Envision Franklin. Both design concepts list institutional uses as compatible provided they do not adversely impact surrounding neighborhoods. Staff said the church campus has been at the location for several decades and recommended forwarding the ordinance to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
Pastor Travis Bridal, who identified himself as pastor and one of the elders at Christ Fellowship Church, spoke on behalf of the applicant and did not add further conditions. Commissioners had no substantive questions.
By roll call, the commission recommended approval to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. Commissioners Allen, Franks, Lindsey, Mann, McLemore, Orr, Alderman Peterson and Williamson voted aye. The motion passed.
Staff noted the recommendation will go to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen per the zoning process.
