Mountlake Terrace city manager highlights first community academy and expanded newsletter translations

The Mountlake Terrace city manager reported that the city held its first community academy event and that the next quarterly community newsletter will be mailed to all households with translated versions available in Spanish and Vietnamese.

"We had our first community academy event last night here in this room, and, I thought it went fantastic," the City Manager said, and added that the next academy session, covering community and economic development and finance, is scheduled for next Wednesday.

The quarterly newsletter is slated to hit mailboxes next week, and staff said translated versions will be available on the city website in Spanish and Vietnamese. The city manager noted the newsletter is mailed to every household, including homeowners and renters, and that deliveries to apartment complexes are made in bulk to the complex's delivery point. "So there may be a little bit of an issue getting from the delivery spot to each individual door. So we're looking at ways to improve that process and make sure every member of our community gets the community newsletter and the same info. And hopefully, we'll have a solution for that soon. It looks like we have 1 that's pretty promising," the City Manager said.

Council members asked a clarifying question about whether businesses receive the newsletter; staff confirmed every address receives it. No formal council action was taken on the newsletter or the community academy report.
