The Bridal Planning Commission on Feb. 26 adopted revised bylaws after debating several proposed amendments, including a contested proposal to change regular meeting start times to 5 p.m.
Deputy City Clerk Deb Estrada summarized staff and commissioner suggested amendments and noted a legal correction: the threshold for a majority vote in the bylaws should be three of five, not four. “A majority vote being 4 votes of the entire membership of the planning commission ... that’s an accurate — a majority would actually be 3,” Estrada said, explaining the staff‑recommended fix to Section 7.
Commissioner Dan Thompson moved to change the regular meeting start time to 5 p.m. (from 6 p.m.), arguing the earlier time would align with other boards and help staff. Several commissioners objected, saying earlier start times could reduce public participation for working residents; the amendment failed on a 2–2 roll call.
Vice Chair JB Gibson moved a separate amendment to Section 7 to revise the majority‑vote language from four to three; that amendment carried on a 4–0 roll call. The commission then adopted the bylaws as amended on a 4–0 roll call. Roll‑call votes were recorded on the record; the deputy clerk handled the roll calls.
No other bylaw changes were adopted at the meeting. The commission concluded business and confirmed its next regular meeting is scheduled for March 26 at 6 p.m.
