The Peabody City Council on Thursday approved an entertainment license for Endless Hibachi and Sushi LLC at 82 Newbury St., allowing karaoke and recorded music under conditions set by the council.
The council acted after a resident raised concerns about parking and traffic near the Route 1‑area site and a councilor proposed limits on live entertainment hours.
During the public hearing, a Huntington Wood resident identified himself as Stanley Greg and said he supports small businesses but worries that karaoke could increase customer volume and strain already limited parking and tight access near Route 1. "My concern would be the karaoke part attracting a lot of people," Greg said, adding concerns about fire apparatus access and traffic flow near the on‑ramp to Route 128.
Council discussion addressed those concerns and operational details. Councilor Gamache told the council he had discussed hours with the petitioner and moved approval with conditions: "The non live entertainment will be 10AM to 1AM 7 days a week. The hours of live entertainment will be 8PM to 12:30AM, Thursday through Sunday." Councilor Turco and others noted they had not experienced parking or fire apparatus problems at the location during visits.
Councilor Higgins asked for clarification that the non‑live hours apply seven days a week; the council confirmed that condition during the motion.
Councilors also noted a past tax bill for the property; a councilor reported a receipt showing the past‑due amount was paid the prior week.
The motion to approve the license with the conditions carried unanimously, recorded as 11‑0.
The petitioner appeared at the hearing and nodded in agreement to the conditions; no further public speakers opposed the application.
The license allows Endless Hibachi and Sushi LLC to present recorded music and television from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily, and live karaoke 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Thursday through Sunday. Councilors said they expect the business to follow standard last‑call and closing procedures.
The council did not require additional parking changes; councilors asked city inspectors to ensure the site meets fire and building access standards as part of regular permitting.
