Committee assigns subgroups, schedules continued markup focusing on correction facilities

During the Feb. 28 session, members of the House Committee on Corrections & Institutions organized smaller working groups to review discrete parts of the committee’s agenda and set the day’s markup priorities.
Chair Patricia identified subgroup assignments for several topics: a working group on H.176 (work-crew provisions) that includes Sean, Kevin, James and others; a group for dams consisting of Connor, Gina, Troy, and Joe; and a team to examine Wi‑Fi issues for the Department of Corrections with Kevin and Bridal. Members also named a subgroup to study private-entity roles in economic development and affordable housing that included Connor and others. Scott Moore reportedly responded to earlier requests and indicated availability to present to the committee at 2:30 p.m., pending scheduling.
Committee members agreed to reconvene after floor activity and to remain flexible for an afternoon session if conference committee reports required quick action. Chair Patricia said the committee would restart markup that afternoon and “start with the correction facilities.”
No formal votes were recorded on the subgroup assignments; the committee’s direction was procedural and preparatory for continued markup.
